Andhra Pradesh to Open 10 New Medical Colleges by 2027-28
10 New medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh are likely to begin by 2027-28. AP state aims to meet the demand of medical education in the state and to offer better healthcare system and more opportunities for aspiring doctors.
New Medical Colleges in AP: Andhra Pradesh state is most likely to get 10 new medical colleges by the end of academic session 2027-28. As per the media sources, CM Chandrababu Naidu highlighted that setting up these new medical colleges will greatly strengthen healthcare services and improve medical education in the state.
In the first phase of the meeting, the state cabinet has approved draft Request for Proposals (RFPs) and concession agreements to begin colleges in four locations. For the remaining six locations, feasibility studies and draft RFPs are being prepared, with the tender committee authorized to make minor changes to the documents after pre-bid consultations.
The proposed medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh state are planned in the following regions:
- Adoni
- Madanapalle
- Markapuram
- Pulivendula
- Penugonda
- Palakollu
- Amalapuram
- Narsipatnam
- Bapatla
- Parvathipuram.
Several media sources have mentioned that the state is plannning to adopt the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to reduce risks in design, funding, and execution, while also improving efficiency and ensuring long-term value of the infrastruction. Hence, the government may establish all 10 medical colleges through the PPP route. The target is to complete construction and have the colleges ready for student admissions by the 2027-28 academic year.
Meanwhile, the Tourism minister, Kandula Durgesh, has rejected the opposition’s claims that the upcoming medical colleges are being privatized. He clarified that while private party contribution is being used to speed up construction, the ownership and administrative control of the AP New medical colleges will remain entirely with the state government. He further highlighted that the move aims to enhance structures, ease the monetary burden on the government, and make medical education more attainable to students across Andhra Pradesh.
