Candidates demand postponement of NEET PG 2021 amid rising cases of COVID-19
A large number of candidates have demanded postponement of NEET PG 2021 exam amid COVID-19 outbreak. Candidates have contended that they could have traveling issues as several states have imposed restrictions. Read to know more.
NEET PG 2021 aspirants have requested the authority to postpone the exam amid COVID-19 outbreak. Candidates took up Twitter and other social platforms, demanding postponement of the exam date till the second wave of COVID-19 infection subsides. COVID-19 cases are on the rise across the country. Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh are among the states which are contributing the highest number of daily cases in the total tally across the country. Acknowledging the students' demand, NBE decided to postpone NEET PG 2021 exam. In an official notification on April 15, 2021, the NBE announced the decision to postponed NEET PG 2021 was taken considering the safety and well being of candidates. On May 3, 2021, the government further announced that NEET PG 2021 exam will not be conducted before August 31, 2021.
Notably, NBE on April 9, 2021, issued COVID-19 guidelines for the safe conduct of NEET PG 2021 exam. In the official notification, NBE also said that NEET 2021 exam will be held as per the schedule and candidates need to follow COVID-19 guidelines on the exam-day. Candidates who were demanding postponment of exam believed that they could have transport issues traveling from containment zones during COVID-19. “Please understand many pg aspirants won't be coming from their homes...They are providing services in various hospitals. They are in some other cities, their families in some other cities,” one of the aspirants tweeted.
“We are NOT asking to postpone beyond May. What we are requesting is to please conduct exam after the peak of the second wave subsides 2-3 weeks before result (May 31). How to travel for long with a parent via public transport now? Sir,” another medical student said. Reportedly several academicians and prominent leaders have also supported the candidates in their #PostponeNEETPG2021 demand.
