NEET PG 2026 marking scheme is a must-know for all those who plan to appear for the examination. With the exam day closing in, it becomes more and more important with each passing day. The parameters which together constitute the NEET PG marking scheme are the type of questions, the total number of questions, and the marking system. NEET PG 2026 will follow a negative marking system. This has been explained in detail below, but before that let us know a little bit more about NEET PG 2026. 

NEET PG 2026 exam date will be announced by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). The entrance examination will be held for admission to MS/ MD/ post MBBS DNB courses. Let us now get back to the marking scheme of NEET PG. The marking scheme is an integral part of the NEET PG exam pattern. NEET PG 2026 Exam Pattern: Introduction

Mode of the examination – NEET PG will be conducted in an online mode. Each candidate will be allocated a desktop in the exam centre. The candidate will then have to log in to the system using the Id and password provided by the invigilator. Moreover, an online examination, a candidate can view only one question at a time. He/she has to select an answer and then move to another one. After the test concludes, the candidate needs to select ‘end test’ and ‘submit’.

Q:   What is the pattern of NEET PG exam?
A:

NEET PG pattern comprises details about exam mode, medium, total number of questions, allotted time, and marking scheme. NBE conducts NEET PG exam in computer-based mode. The medium of the exam is English only. Candidates don't have option to select any other language in NEET PG exam.

A total of 200 multiple choice questions are asked and candidates get 3.5 hours to answer them. According to the marking scheme, for every right answer, 4 marks are awarded while for wrong response -1 mark is deducted. No mark will be awarded/deduced for unanswered question.

Q:   Will there be negative marking in the NEET PG exam?
A:

Yes. Mark is deducted for each wrong answer in NEET PG. For each right answer, candidates get 4 marks and for each wrong answer, 1 mark is deducted. As there is provision of the negative marking in exam, students are advised to answer only those questions where they feel confidence of right answer.

Q:   Will there be some changes in NEET PG 2026 pattern?
A:

There is least chance National Board of Examinations (NBE) will make some changes in NEET PG 2026 pattern. The exam pattern is released along with the official information brochure online. The exam pattern comprises crucial details pertaining to exam including mode, medium, total number of questions, their type, and marking scheme.

Medium of the examination – Unlike other entrance examinations, NEET PG question paper is available in the English language only.

Duration of the examination – Candidate will be given 210 minutes to attempt the NEET PG question paper.

Now that we know the other parameters of the exam pattern, let us move to NEET PG marking scheme 2026.

What Comprises The NEET PG 2026 Marking Scheme?

Type of questions – NEET PG 2026 will have objective type questions, that is, for every question candidate will be given four options. He/ she has to choose the answer from among these options only.

Number of questions – Candidates will be judged on the basis of 200 questions. Candidates can refer to the syllabus of NEET PG 2026 to know what kind of questions can be asked in the examination.

According to the NEET PG marking scheme students get four marks for each correct answer and one mark will be deducted for the incorrect answer. If you do not attempt a question, there will be no marks added or deducted, the total weightage of the question paper is 800.

Q:   How many questions will be there in NEET PG 2025 exam?
A:

NEET PG 2025 question paper will comprise 200 questions. Total marks will be 800 marks. Students will be provided three and half hours to answer question paper. There will be a provision of negative marking. 

Q:   Has NEET PG 2026 pattern released by NBE?
A:

Not yet. NEET PG 2026 pattern will be released by NBE. Pattern and other crucial details related to NEET PG 2026 exam is released along with official information brochure. NEET PG 2026 is expected to be held in August 2025. Exam pattern carries crucial details such as mode and medium, total of questions, allotted time, and marking scheme. 

Q:   What is time bound sections in NEET PG exam?
A:

NBE introduced time bound sections in NEET PG in 2024. It refers to fix time to attempt a particular section. Candidates have to exahusts allotted time of previous section before moving to next section. They can't choose to answer questions of any section as per their wish. In addition, one exahusted time of particular section, he/she can't go back and change answer in the section after time exahusts. As per time bound section, next section will start automatically once the allotted time exahusts. Whole NEET PG question paper is divided into 5 sections (A to E) with 40 questions each. The allotted time of particular section is 42 minutes. 

Importance of NEET PG Marking Scheme 2026

The marking scheme of NEET PG 2026 plays a very important role in deciding the fate of a candidate. Due to the negative marking system, a candidate may lose marks thus bringing down his/ her score in NEET PG 2026. To avoid this, experts and toppers suggest against attempting the questions to which you do not know the answer to.

Yes. MCC has announce round-3 NEET PG 2025 counselling dates and schedule will be announced only after reduction of NEET PG 2025 cutoff percentile. MCC may reduce cutoff by 10 to 15 percentile. Students will have to register and declare choice of college and course for round-3 seat allotment.
