Ashwathnarayan CN, Minister of Higher Education, Karnataka, clarified that the decision has been taken only for his year due to the delay in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

Ashwathnarayan CN, Minister of Higher Education, Karnataka, said medical aspirants surrendering their engineering seats late have to pay only this year’s fee and not five years.  

According to the rules of the Karnataka Higher Education department, the candidates who block engineering seats and surrender them after the casual vacancy round have to pay six times the course fees as penalty. The decision has been taken only for his year due to the delay in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). 

β€œDue to the delay in the NEET examination this time, the penalty charge for students who have already secured an engineering seat and now enrolling in the medical course has been cancelled,” said Ashwathnarayan CN. Due to the Supreme Court hearing regarding the NEET UG issue, the counselling process got delayed and hence many students were not willing to surrender the engineering seats they got without getting a confirmation regarding the medical seats.  

NEET UG Counselling 2021: Change nationality to NRI by February 13 

The NEET UG 2021 counselling registration process for Round 2 will begin from February 16 onwards. Before that, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has issued a notice for candidates who are willing to convert their category to Non-Resident Indian (NRI). As per the notice, such candidates should mail their relevant documents supporting their claim to change nationality from Indian to NRI from February 11 to 13 (6 pm).
