The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has announced the Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) Chair Programme in order to promote and strengthen the traditional Indian Medicine System (AYUSH) globally. Under this program, AYUSH Chairs have been established in international universities and institutes to foster educational collaboration, research and raise awareness of AYUSH systems overseas. The Ministry of Ayush has set up AYUSH academic chairs in Bangladesh, Australia, Mauritius, Latvia, and Malaysia.

These chairs are part of a larger international promotion campaign for AYUSH medical systems. The precise aims sought through this program are as follows:

  1. Carry out academic and research activities connected to AYUSH Systems of Medicine.
  2. Design and finalize the curriculum for short-term/medium-term courses in accordance with the University's and AYUSH Education Guidelines in India.
  3. Take tutorials/lectures/practical sessions in accordance with the University's curricular requirements and participate in events such as departmental seminars, conferences, faculty meetings, and so on, as mutually agreed upon by the University and the Chair.
  4.  Determine the viability of conducting collaborative research.
  5. Serve as a reputable source of information about AYUSH systems of medicine for the host country and surrounding countries.
  6. Communicate with the Indian Embassy/High Commission of India, the host university, and the Ministry of Ayush.

  7. Conduct AYUSH System workshops/seminars in collaboration with the host organisation.
