NEET 2025 Under Legal Hurdles: MP HC Freezes Results; SC Declines Maratha Quota Plea
NEET 2025 is facing legal turbulence as the Madhya Pradesh High Court orders a halt to the exam results owing to discrepancies in an examination centre. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has refused to hear a petition challenging the Maratha reservation in the NEET examination, directing aspirants to seek redress in the respective High Courts.Â
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET-UG) on May 4 across India. Right after the examination concluded, the exam drew attention from the medical fraternity, addressing the examination as the toughest examination after the year 2019.
Students who appeared for the examination have highlighted their dissatisfaction with the Physics section in the examination. Further, the length of the Biology section affected the time management of the examination. Now, the examination has gone under the legal facade in two different cases, i.e. one from Maharashtra and another from Madhya Pradesh state.Â
Madhya Pradesh HC Halts NEET UG Results 2025Â
The High Court of Madhya Pradesh has ordered a temporary halt to the NEET UG 2025 results due to a discrepancy in one of the exam centres. Reportedly, one NEET exam centre, i.e. PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 centre, had a power failure at the centre at 3:30 PM.
According to the petition, participants had to finish their exams in dimly lit conditions because there were no backup power systems in place. Emergency illumination, or candles, was only set up at 4.30 p.m., with only 30 minutes remaining in the exam. However, NTA has not issued any statement regarding this matter, as reported by TOI.Â
NEET UG 2025: SC Declines Plea Seeking Maratha Reservation
In another similar event, the Supreme Court of India has declined a plea challenging the 10% Maharashtra Reservation in educational courses. The SC bench of CJI BR Gavai and Justice AG Masih refused to entertain the writ petition filed by the candidates preparing for the NEET exam.
Given the upcoming exam dates ( i.e. June 15 for NEET PG and May 4 for NEET UG), the Court suggested that the High Court assess the possibility of temporary relief instead.Â
