NEET PG 2025-26 Cutoff Reduction Challenged

Supreme Court of India will hear the plea on the reduction of NEET PG cutoff 2025-26 today April 28, 2026. Justice PS Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe will be hearing the argument of Centre. The PIL was filed in Supreme Court related to reduction of NEET PG cutoff 2025-26.

On January 13, 2026, a notice was released by NBEMS regarding the reduction in NEET PG qualifying cutoff percentile 2025-26. After the reduction of cutoff candidates with zero percentile were also eligible for admission.

Advocate Satyam Singh Rajput filed a plea in SC challenging the NBEMS NEET PG cutoff reduction notice. He mentioned that lowering the cutoff standards to zero or even negative percentile after the announcement of  result and completion of two rounds of NEET PG counselling is arbitrary and unconstitutional, and it violates Article 14 and 21 of the Constitution.

In spite of reducing the NEET PG cutoff below zero, candidates are unable to take admission due to high course fee.

On defending the plea central government of India argued that the reduction in NEET PG will not affect the education quality. Supporting the argument they said that NEET PG eligibility is MBBS degree and through NEET PG admission is offered to Specialization courses.
