National Medical Commission has proposed extending the maximum time to complete MBBS programme from 9 to 10 years. Under the new Graduate Medical Education (Amendment) Regulations, 2026, medicos would get a maximum duration of 10 years to finish their MBBS course. The newly issued notification has been authorised by NMC Secretary Dr. Raghav Langer. These regulations seek to substitute existing guidelines. In June 2023, the commission had reduced the final degree completion window from ten years down to nine years. The new policy will reverse that structural change.
