Pralhad Joshi Appointed as New Education Minister following Dharmendra Pradhan's Resignation
Pralhad Joshi has been appointed as the new Education Minister of India, hours after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned amid NEET paper leak row. Pradhan's resignation has been accepted by President Droupadi Murmu.
Cabinet Minister Pralhad Joshi has been appointed as the new Education Minister, in addition to his existing portfolio. The move came following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan amid protests over NEET paper leak. President Droupadi Murmu, as advised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has accepted the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan with immediate effect.
Joshi also holds the charge of the Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and New and Renewable Energy. Joshi is a BJP leader who has represented the Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka since 2004. Earlier, he served as the Minister of Coal, Mines, and Parliamentary Affairs.Â
Joshi has been leading the Union Government's efforts for expansion of clean energy capacity that seeks to achieve 500 GW of renewable and non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030. Moreover, he is alligned with the vision to ensure net-zero emissions by 2070.
NEET Paper Leak Row
Joshi's appointment as the Union Minister of Education comes at a crucial time that demands reforms in the education sector to ensure zero paper leaks. It is one of the education reforms among others such as restructuring of the National Testing Agency (NTA), implemetation of anti-paper leak measures and shift of NEET 2027 exam mode to computer-based test (CBT) from OMR -based testing.
