Amid the unprecedented delay in the MBBS admission for the academic year 2021-22, the aspirants are getting anxious about the admissions.

The Central authorities like Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and Ayush Admissions Central Counseling Committee (AACCC) are yet to announce the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2021 counselling schedules for admission to various undergraduate medical courses. The counselling process has been delayed due to the pending case in the Supreme Court related to the reservation policy for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses.

As per reports, the directorate of technical education (DTE), Goa, has received multiple calls over two months from anxious medical aspirants as the admission process for MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) courses for AIQ (All India Quota) seats are yet to begin for the academic session 2021-22.

The official statement reads, "Last year, due to the pandemic, the admission process to undergraduate medical and dentistry seats was delayed and took place around December 2020 for the academic year 2020-21. This year, the apex court is hearing arguments over the quota for economically weaker sections and OBC for medical programmes, admission process has still not been taken up even in January. A hearing is coming up on January 6 and we are hoping that a decision will come on the day."

"We are getting frantic calls from students. There are 153 state quota seats available at Goa Medical College. Usually, for the students figuring in the first 75 in the merit list, the seat is as good as confirmed. So they have no qualms waiting, without joining any other programme. For the rest of the students, things can be uncertain and the wait for admission rounds difficult," added the statement.

The Supreme Court of India will today resume the hearing of the case on reservation policy for undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses and the judgement is awaited for direction to the central authorities.
