PM Modi interacts with new education minister and IIT, NIT, IISc heads

Today, on 8 July 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with heads of the centrally funded technical institutions via video conferencing.

After yesterday's cabinet reshuffling, all newly appointed ministers took charge of their departments. Today, on 8 July 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with heads of the centrally funded technical institutions like IIT, NIT, and IISc via video conferencing. The conferencing witnessed participation of over 100 Directors of these prominent institutions. The newly appointed Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Ministers of State for Education also graced the event through their presence.

 Following the video conferencing, Prime Minister Modi tweeted, "Had an enriching interaction with Directors of leading IITs and @iiscbangalore during which we exchanged thoughts on a wide range of subjects including making India a hub for R&D, innovation and popularising science among the youth." 

Mr. Modi appreciated the efforts of young innovators and the R&D work by these topmost institutions of the country in providing quick technical solutions for the challenges posed by the pandemic. 

Prime Minister emphasized that during the disrupting environment and new challenges, the education system need to be more flexible and as per the needs of the learners. He also added that the core values of the education models must be accessibility, quality, equity, and affordability.

Prime Minister Modi also said that the prominent education institutes of India need to reinvent and revaluate for providing innovative and alternative models as per the present and future requirements of India. Furthermore, he added that the institutes must find a way to prepare the youth for the upcoming changes and disruptions due to the fourth industrial revolution.

PM praised the initiatives by these educational institutions towards digitization by providing bachelor's and master's degree programs through online platforms. He lauded the fact that the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in higher education has improved in the past few years and added that the digitization of higher education could further improve the GER.

Prime Minister highlighted that 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan' will serve as the foundation for the aspirations and dreams of the country in the coming years, and R&D institutions will play a pivotal role in it. He also added that technological education must be provided in the local Indian languages and the focus should be on personalized, affordable and AI-driven education.
