JEE Main 2021 will be conducted in the computer-based mode for phases 3 and 4.
As the COVID situation in the country is rapidly normalizing, Education Minister has announced the JEE Main 2021 phase 3 and 4 exam dates. JEE Main 2021 April exam will be held from July 20 to 25 while May exam will be held from July 27 to August 2. The question here arises, “Is there a chance of JEE Main 2021 shifting to home-based remote proctored exam”. However, the authority has scheduled to conduct in computer-based mode.
JEE Main 2021 Exam Dates Announced
The NTA has announced new dates for the phase 3 and 4. According to the official notification, JEE Main application submission and correction window has also been reopened.
The final decision has been taken on July 6 regarding JEE Main 2021 exam dates by the Education Minister. This is to ensure dates of JEE Main and board exams do not clash with each other and students get ample time in between the board and JEE. Covid protocols will be followed at all the exam centres of JEE Main.

Can remote proctored exam be a good alternative for JEE Main amid COVID?
The home based remote proctored exam is conducted in a way that students can appear for the test from their home or from any other place with computer, internet setup and the web-camera. A few other basic hardware and software requirements are also needed in the computer, which are generally available in computers.
The candidate is monitored through web camera for the entire duration of exam. The test screen of computer is also monitored through special software for any wrong practice. The web camera also records the movements and facial expressions of candidates during the test.
If any student is found indulged in any wrongful means, the test gets automatically canceled. In case of interruption in test due to power or hardware/software failure, candidates are generally provided alternative timing for the exam.
Around 10 lakh students would be appearing in the remaining two sessions of the JEE Main, which is a huge number. The problem is, every JEE candidate might not be having a computer. Moreover, a good internet connection is something not available in every part of the country, specially in the rural areas, thus making the remote proctored test a difficult alternative for JEE Main.
