In the first week of December, the Union Territory reopened schools for Classes 1 to 9 after witnessing a downfall in the number of COVID-19 cases.

COVID-19 Surge: In the midst of the ongoing pandemic situation, the Puducherry administration on January 18 announced its decision to shut all schools and colleges in the Union Territory for the students until January 31. The closure has been announced by Puducherry Education Minister A Namasviyam considering the out-of-control pandemic situation across the country.  

Earlier, an official of the Department of Health told PTI that the government had received a recommendation from the department to declare holidays for schools conducting offline classes for students of Classes 1 to 9 in view of the rising trend of occurrence of fresh COVID cases.

In the first week of December, the Union Territory reopened schools for Classes 1 to 9 after witnessing a downfall in the number of COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, for the college-going students, the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), Pondicherry Central University, on Saturday announced that students who have exhausted the maximum period prescribed to complete the degree programs are being given one more chance to complete them.

Pondicherry Central University announced that the students of MBA (from 2005-2006 to the 2015-2016 calendar year) and the students of MCom and MA (English, Sociology and Hindi) and all other courses (from 2014-15 to 2015-2016) are granted one more chance to complete the course in the January 2022 session.
