Punjab Schools to be named after martyrs: The Government of Punjab is planning to rename the state schools after martyrs and freedom fighters, School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said on Tuesday. Village panchayats and the school management committees have been asked to pass resolutions for schools to be renamed, he said.
They will then send the same to the state headquarters within the next month through principals along with the biographical notes about the martyrs and freedom fighters, said the minister in a statement. Bains said that the decision to name government schools after the martyrs has been taken so that future generations get to know about the sacrifices of martyrs and freedom fighters for the country.
Earlier in August, in a letter to Punjab and Delhi Chief Ministers, i.e. Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal, respectively, retired Professor Chaman Lal, an honorary advisor to the Bhagat Singh Archives and Resource Centre in the National Capital, asked them to provide books on the legendary freedom fighter to schools, colleges and libraries to propagate his ideas. Both Delhi and Punjab are governed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which claims to follow the principles and ideals of Bhagat Singh and B R Ambedkar.
The professor further added that the Central University of Punjab in Bathinda and a university in Delhi should be named after Bhagat Singh to inculcate his ideas and patriotism in young students.
