The UPSC IAS exam is likely to be conducted in July 2020. The Indian Railway announced to cancel all the passenger tickets till June 30. This will have the implications on the IAS prelims exam 2020. The IAS exam centres are located across the nation and the candidates need to reach their to appear in the UPSC prelims exam. Moreover, lockdown 4.0 is also announced and the guidelines are still awaited.

The UPSC IAS Exam 2020 was postponed by the Union Public Service Commission on May 4. The new dates for the IAS prelims 2020 exam will be declared on May 20 after assessing the situation. The non-availability of the railway tickets will one of the most important factors which will impact the decision on the new dates of IAS prelims exam 2020. UPSC had deferred the IAS prelims exam 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic and the consequent lockdown 3.0 as the reason behind the decision.
The number of coronavirus positive cases is increasing day by day even in the lockdown. The Union government has given various reliefs in the lockdown which could have detrimental effects.

The UPSC has mentioned in their notice that the candidates will get one month for making all the preparation related to the travel and accommodations for the IAS prelims exam. So the most probable dates for the IAS prelims exam will be June 21, June 28, July 5, July 12 and July 19.
Health experts have mentioned in various media reports that in June and July, there will be a peak in the cases of coronavirus patients. So it would be very difficult to conduct the IAS prelims exam in June. Consequently, the most probable dates for the IAS exam 2020 will be in July.

The IAS exam is conducted across the nation on the same day. But the situation right now is that majority of the exam centres are in the RED zone and marked as the corona hotspots. It would be a big challenge to conduct the exam in the present scenario.

It is also an apprehension that the exam dates will be further postponed to a future date depending on the scenario arising. It is not known how the things will turn out in June and July because the number of corona positive cases is increasing with increasing rate
