WBCS 2025 Exam to Follow Existing Pattern as State Govt Withdraws Proposed Changes
WBCS 2025 will follow the existing exam pattern after the state government withdrew its proposed changes. Check details here
WBCS 2025: The West Bengal State Government has officially withdrawn its earlier notification proposing changes to the West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS) (Executive) exam pattern. Initially, the government had planned to shift the exam format to a more descriptive, UPSC-style model, which would have required candidates to write detailed answers.
However, this decision has now been reversed, and the government has confirmed that the existing WBCS exam pattern will remain in place for the foreseeable future. In September last year, the West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) announced a significant revamp of the WBCS exam pattern, set to be implemented from 2025.
WBCS to Retain Objective-Based Structure
The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms has stalled the implementation of two notifications that proposed introducing a UPSC-style syllabus and exam format for the WBCS. As a result, the WBCS exam will continue to follow the original syllabus and format that were in place before the issuance of these notifications.
As per media reports, the PAR department states that "The two notifications of the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms on introducing a syllabus and format of the WBCS similar to the UPSC exams have been stalled. The syllabus and format of the exams would remain what they were before the issuance of the two notifications."
