Jamia semester exams cancelled till further notice

As per the official notification, the fresh schedule will be prepared in consultation with the students.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Jamia Millia Islamia Najma Akhtar has announced that the ongoing semester examinations at the university have been cancelled until further notice.

“On the demand of the protesting students, the Vice-Chancellor in consultation with the Deans, HoDs and other officials announced that the ongoing semester exams stand cancelled till further notice,” read the official notification. The notification also said that the fresh schedule will be prepared by the respective Deans/HoDs/ Directors for notification in consultation with the students. It has also been notified on the JMI website that the “Pre-Board examinations of schools will, however, continue as per the notified schedule.”

The Vice-chancellor was surrounded by the students in the premises of the University and was forced to emerge and confront a mob that demanded an FIR to be registered against the Delhi Police in connection with the violent clashes last month. Akhtar, then explained that attempts were being made to file a complaint. She said that the process of filing an FIR against the Delhi Police, who entered the campus without permission, will begin on January 14.

As per an official, the National Human Rights Commission India (NHRC) has already begun with the inquiry into the police action against the students. A team has already visited the university and another team will be coming tomorrow to record the statement of the victim students.
