With schools, colleges, and now university exams disrupted, Mumbai’s academic calendar is facing a rare pause, forcing students to wait until weather conditions improve for normal schedules to resume.

The University of Mumbai has officially postponed all examinations scheduled for August 19, 2025, due to the ongoing heavy rains and red alert in the city. The university issued a circular on Monday confirming that the postponed exams will now be conducted on August 23, 2025, with timings remaining the same as scheduled originally.

The notice, signed by Dr. Pooja Raundale, Director, Board of Examinations & Evaluation, has been sent to all affiliated colleges and university departments, directing them to inform students at the earliest.

Schools and Colleges Already Closed

The decision follows the Maharashtra government and BMC’s directive to close all schools and junior colleges in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar on August 18 due to severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions. Now, with Mumbai University postponing its exams, educational activities across the city stand further disrupted.

Students Advised to Note New Date

The University in its notice has clarified that while the exam date has been revised, the examination timings will remain unchanged. Students are advised to follow updates through official university website and their respective colleges to avoid any confusion.

IMD Red Alert Still in Place

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has maintained a red alert for Mumbai and surrounding districts, warning of extremely heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours. Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and remain indoors.
