The University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education have directed all the higher educational institutions and their affiliated colleges/institutions to celebrate Unity Day and participate in all the activities organised. The Higher Education regulators have urged the institutions to ensure the active participation of their faculty members, staff, and students from October 25 to October 31, 2022.

In an official notification, it stated that "As you are aware, the 31st October is celebrated as ‘Unity Day’ to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, known for his supreme patriotism, iron will, and courage of conviction. "There will be a weeklong celebration from October 25 to October 31, 2022 under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with the active participation of all to honor the patriotism of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and to reinforce his teachings and values. On October 31, 2022, ‘Run for Unity’ is to be organized from 7.00 am to 8.00 am. It is envisaged to organize 75,000 Unity runs across India, including 100 runs per district. A microsite is being developed where individuals participating in the Unity run may be encouraged to upload their selfies."
