Students denied admission to PG courses due to evaluation goof-up

At least 21 students of BU, after completing their graduation, had enrolled into post-graduate courses when they were told that their admissions could not be processed as they had failed the final semester examinations. This was after all the students had been given provisional degree certificates after scoring distinction in their undergraduate examinations.

Students score more than maximum marks

The varsity has now formed a syndicate sub-committee to probe the alleged slip-ups, according to Deccan Herald. Meanwhile, at VTU, several third-semester engineering students were reported to have attained more than the maximum marks in an examination on the constitution of India, professional ethics and cyber law, according to TOI. However, post revision of the marks, the students were told that they had failed.

Clarifying the air, an official said it was because the external examinations, which were to be marked out of 60, were instead adjusted for 100. This, in addition to internal exams, caused students to secure more than the maximum marks. Some students also claimed that they were marked down in subjects other than the one to be revised, and failed.

The university official said it was because of the calculations for grace marks. Students of the university are reportedly gearing up to stage protests against the faulty evaluations of the university.
