GNM Nursing Admissions 2026
GNM 2026 Admissions: The General Nursing Midwife (GNM) exam is conducted state-wide only. Each state has its own GNM exam conducting body. In most of the states, the GNM admissions are taken based on the marks secured in the PCB subjects in class XII. In most of the North Eastern states, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and the like have the Counselling bodies which prepare the merit list for admission to the GNM courses in the state colleges and medical institutions.
Some states conduct the GNM admissions through a Common Entrance Test. There are Boards, Universities and Nursing Councils which conduct a common exam for all the state colleges and universities offering the GNM Courses.

But in both cases, the majority of states complete their application process by June/July and the academic session starts in July/August every year. Some states have diluted their state nursing councils until further notice, so in those states, the academic session will be delayed. For Example, Andhra Pradesh GNM admissions are postponed till further notice.

GNM Eligibility Criteria 2026
To fill out the GNM nursing application form 2026, it is important to read the GNM eligibility criteria set by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). It has set standard eligibility criteria for the GNM Nursing diploma course. The eligibility criteria generally remain uniform across the states, but the allotment of seats is carried out based on the reservation rules of the respective state. Find out the eligibility criteria laid by the INC as mentioned below:
- The aspirant must have cleared class 12 in English and must have secured a minimum of 40 per cent in aggregate in the qualifying examination and English separately from any recognized board. State Open School recognized Candidates are also eligible for State Open School, recognized by the State Government, and National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by the Central Government. However, aspirants with a Science stream will be given preference.
- The aspirant must have passed class 12 in English, securing 40 per cent in aggregate in vocational ANM courses from any Institute recognized by the Indian Nursing Council
- The aspirant must have passed class 12 with English, securing 40 per cent in aggregate in the Vocational Health Care Science from a recognized CBSE board/Centre
- The aspirant must be a Registered ANM with a qualifying mark
The GNM is a three-year diploma course in Nursing with six months of mandatory internship. It is a diploma course that can be pursued after class 12, irrespective of the stream taken in the qualifying exam (class 12). After completing the GNM nursing diploma, the candidate will be eligible to pursue BSc Nursing.

The State Nursing Councils, in collaboration with the State-level Health departments, organize the GNM Nursing admission process 2026. The Indian Nursing Council (INC), which is the supreme governing body of Nurses, has issued detailed eligibility criteria for GNM Nursing, and based on the same, GNM nursing application forms 2026 are issued.
The INC had already laid the guidelines regarding GNM Nursing eligibility and is common across the States, but in a few cases, there can be some changes in the eligibility criteria depending upon the reservation criteria of the State. GNM Admission Process Schedule 2026
The GNM Nursing admissions are based on either the entrance test or the counselling process. The INC, along with the State Nursing Councils under the aegis of the Health and Welfare Ministry, Government of India, and the State Health departments are considered responsible for the admission process of the GNM Nursing diploma course.
The GNM exam dates 2026 are not based on the college or the institute. The candidate will have to individually apply to the colleges accepting the GNM score of the respective entrance exams in their state.
