The NEET UG entrance exam is conducted once every year for medical aspirants dreaming of building a career in the field of medicine. After the announcement of the NEET results, the next big thing is participating in the NEET counselling to seek admission in the targeted MBBS colleges. Candidates with a good rank in the NEET exam can get admission seamlessly in their targeted colleges. On the contrary, the candidates with low NEET scores might find it difficult to get a seat in a government medical college.

The NEET Re Exam 2026 is conducted on June 21. Earlier, the exam was conducted on May 3, 2026.  As per the agency, more than 20 lakh students appeared for NEET UG 2026 re exam across the country and abroad. The Re NEET 2026 exam was held at 5,440 examination centres in India and 14 centres abroad. NTA stated that the NEET UG 2026 re-exam was organized with the help of multiple central ministries, state governments, district administrations and security agencies. What is a Low NEET Score?

As per the cutoff released by the conducting body, NTA, a Low NEET Score is the rank at which admission to the MBBS course in top colleges becomes tough to secure. The NEET Qualifying Cutoff for every college is released at the time of counselling. Candidates with high ranks generally find it hard to get admission in the top government colleges such as AIIMS, Delhi; MAMC, Delhi; PGIMER, Chandigarh; UCMS, Delhi; KGMU, Lucknow; LHMC, Delhi, among others.

The NEET cutoff is categorised as qualifying cutoff marks and admission cutoff rank. The NEET qualifying cut off percentile remains the same. 

The NTA determines the NEET cutoff based on the factors given below-

  • Total number of candidates who appear for the examination
  • Difficulty level of the examination
  • Number of seats available

Q:   What is the qualifying NEET cut off for General category candidates?
A: 

The qualifying NEET 2025 cutoff marks for General category candidates is 144. Last year it was 162. As expected, the NEET 2025 cutoff for General category candidates is lower than last year. The reason is, the difficulty level of NEET was tougher this year as compared to last year. The competition level has become even higher, along with the increase in the number of seats.

Q:   When did NTA release the official cutoff for NEET 2025?
A: 

The NEET 2025 cutoff was released along with the result on June 14, 2025. The NEET cutoff for each candidate category was mentioned on the result PDF. The NTA lowered the NEET cut off 2025 as the level of difficulty was higher and the number of test-takers was lower. 

Q:   What is the NEET cut off for BDS in Dental College RIMS Imphal?
A: 

RIMS Imphal cutoff 2022 was 53109 for General category candidates in All India quota for BDS - Bachelor of Dental Surgery. RIMS Imphal admission 2023 to MBBS course is based on NEET 2023 scores followed by NEET Counselling 2023. Conducted by the MCC,  NEET UG Counselling is to be held in multiple rounds. Further, NEET cut off varies depending on the category and domicile/quota of the applicant.

Who can get admission with low NEET Scores?

Those candidates who qualify the NEET cutoff and get a decent score as per the qualifying cutoff released by the MBBS college in which he/she wants to seek admission can get admission even with low NEET Scores. In case a NEET aspirant scores below 144 (e.g., 143 or lower) in the General/EWS category, then he/she will not qualify for counselling. An opening rank for applying to the college is released in the seat matrix for each round of counselling, both by the AIQ seats and the State-counselling conducting bodies.

NTA determines the NEET cut off based on the factors such as difficulty level of the exam, total number of test-takers, total number of seats, candidate category and programme.

Q:   What is the procedure to calculate the NEET percentile score?
A: 

A percentile refers to the comparison between the score of one candidate vis-a-vis the other test takers. It is the percentage of scores that a particular score surpassed. NTA has stated the formula to calculate the NEET percentile, which is given below:

100 multiplied by the Number of candidates with their raw score equal to/ less than the candidate divided by the Total number of candidates who appeared for NEET. 

As per the NEET 2023 result data, the highest percentile obtained was 99.9999019.
