SSC to announce new exam dates for CHSL, JE & Stenographer after May 3

Union Minister Jitendra Singh on March 19 said that the SSC exam dates will be decided after the completion of the lockdown on May 3. The minister tweeted, "SSC examinations that were put on hold due to lockdown, will definitely take place. We will take a call after May 3 and reschedule dates in a manner that it gives sufficient time to all aspirants to reach to their designated exam centres."

He further added, "We have been repeatedly reiterating that the future and interests of SSC aspirants are on high priority of the government. There is no room, absolutely to be panicked by hearsay or unverified social media reports."

Earlier, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) on April 16 had announced the decision on new exam dates for Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level (Tier-I) 2020, Junior Engineer (Paper-I) exam 2020, Stenographer Grade C & D 2019-20 and CHSL 2018 Skill Test will be taken after May 3. The commission had conducted a special meeting to review the situation arising out of COVID-19 pandemic.

Official notice regarding this was published on the website of the commission. The notice reads, “In view of the prevailing lockdown restrictions, including social distancing norms, it was decided that dates for all examinations, were candidates are required to travel from all parts of the country will be reviewed from time to time.”

The notice further reads, “A decision on fresh dates for the remaining days of SSC CHSL Tier 1 exam, SSC JE Paper 1 2020 exam, SSC Stenographer Grade C & D 2019-20 exam and SSC CHSL 2018 skill test will be taken after May 3 following the completion of the second phase of the lockdown.”

“The rescheduled dates of these examinations will be notified on the websites of the Commission and its Regional/Sub-Regional Offices of the Commission. The SSC annual calendar of examinations will also be reviewed in respect of the schedules of other examinations,” further reads the notice.

The SSC CHSL Tier-I exam commenced on March 17 and was to end on March 28. However, due to the coronavirus outbreak, SSC had suspended the Tier-I exam with effect from March 20. Candidates who have taken the exam from March 17 to 19 need not to appear again.

Similarly, SSC had also cancelled SSC JE Paper 1 2020 exam which was scheduled to be conducted from March 30 to April 2 as precautionary measures.

The ongoing SSC CPO 2019-20 medical test had also been cancelled by the Ministry of Home Affairs with effect from March 23, 2020, following the outbreak of COVID-19. The medical test of SSC CPO 2019-20 that was scheduled to be conducted from March 23 to 30, 2020 was only cancelled. 

SSC had also postponed the SSC GD Constable Detailed Medical Exam (DME) that was scheduled to be held from March 26 to April 7. Also, the commission had postponed the SSC GD Constable Review Medical Exam (RME) that was scheduled to be held from March 24 to April 30.

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is entrusted with the responsibility of conducting various exams every year Group-B and C posts in various ministries/departments/organisations of Government of India.
