Students often get confused about CUET UG and CUET PG. There is difference between two exams. CUET UG is held at undergraduate level while CUET PG is held at postgraduate level. Students who already have cleared CUET UG can apply for PG courses. This article enlists all differences between CUET UG and PG in details. Both CUET UG and CUET PG exam are held for providing admission into different courses from Science, Humanities, Engineering, and Technology in institutes across country. Both exams are conducted annually in computer-based mode by NTA. CUET UG 2026 is expected to be held from May 11, 2026. NTA has confirmed CUET PG 2026 date. The exam will begin from March 6, 2026 till March 27, 2026.

Q:   What is CUET UG exam?
A: 

Common University Entrance Test/ CUET UG is an entrance exam. It is conducted for admission to UG programs offered by various central, state, private and deemed universities. Candidates willing to take admission to undergraduation programme in streams like Science, Humanities, Commerce, Law and Management must appear for CUET UG exam when conducted.

This entrance examination assesses candidates at various levels: Language, domain knowledge and general aptitude. CUET UG is conducted annually in computer based mode. CUET UG scores are accepted by more than 300 universities across India. 

Q:   How is CUET exam centre allocated?
A: 

CUET exam centre is allocated on the basis of the preferences entered by the candidate while filling the CUET application form. NTA allotes exam centre as per the preference entered and is subject to availability and logistical consideration.

While filling the CUET application form, candidates can select four cities of their choice. Choice of CUET exam centre cities will be limited to the State of permanent address or State of present address only. In case there are very few candidates from a city, the NTA reserves the right to merge one, two, or more cities.

CUET 2026 exam will be held in May-June 2026 in computer based mode over a month window. The exam will be held across more than 300 exam cities in India. Candidates will be able to know the alloted exam centre on issuance of CUET intimation slip or CUET admit card.

Q:   In how many cities will CUET UG be conducted?
A: 

CUET 2026 will be held in 300 cities across India and outside India. The list of CUET 2026 exam centres has been updated once the CUET notification was released. Candidates can check the list of exam cities where CUET 2026 will be held:

Arunachal Pradesh, Andaman Nicobar, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Chandigarh, Delhi/New Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

CUET is also conducted in cities outside India.

Q:   How is CUET PG examination monitored at the exam centres?
A: 

• A Central Control Room was opened to monitor and facilitate the smooth conduct of the Examination on the ground. 02 National Coordinators, 19 Regional Coordinators, 303 City Coordinators, 1083 Observers, and 162 Deputy Observers were deployed.

• Live CCTV Surveillance was planned in all examination centres to curb malpractices in the examination. The NTA also made arrangements for live viewing of remote locations of all examination centres from the Control Room located in the NTA premises of New Delhi. Recording of CCTV Systems was also done.

• The examination centres were also monitored using AI-based Video Analytics and Virtual Observers.

• In order to stop cheating using mobile networks, Jammers were installed in all the Centres.

Difference between CUET UG and CUET PG: Exam pattern & Marking Scheme

Though both exams are held in computer-based mode by NTA, exam patterns are different. In CUET, students are tested overall knowledge from chosen domain and general awareness while in CUET PG only domain knowledge is tested. A total of 50 questions are asked in CUET UG while a total of 75 questions are asked in CUET PG exam. Three sections are there in CUET UG question paper, first one language, secondly domain, and thirdly general aptitude test. Marking scheme of both exams are also different. 5 marks are awarded for right answer and -1 for wrong answer in CUET UG while +4 marks for right and -1 for wrong response in CUET PG. Total duration of CUET UG exam is 3 hours while CUET PG is held for 1.5 hours.

CUET UG and CUET PG Exams: Latest Updates

Application process for both CUET UG 2026 2and CUET P026 G exams have been completed. Last date to submit CUET UG application form 2026 was February 4, 2026. NTA has not announced CUET UG 2026 dates. However, exam is expected to begin from May 11, 2026. NTA only accepted online application form for CUET UG exam 2026.

 Students had to submit CUET PG 2026 application form till January 23, 2026. NTA is expected to release CUET PG 2026 city intimation slip by February 24, 2026.  City intimation slip is uploaded 10 days before exam for CUET PG 2026. Exam is scheduled to be held from March 6 till March 27, 2026.
