B.Com or any graduation is not compulsory to become a Chartered Accountant. Graduates and students pursuing other accounting profession can enter CA through Direct Entry Route, while students pursuing 12th Standard (in any stream) in Academic Year 201819 can pursue Chartered Accountancy professional courser through CA Foundation course route. If you satisfy any of the following four criteria, then you need not appear for CA-CPT / Foundation course, and can directly register for CA-IPCC / Intermediate course:
If you have secured 55% or more in your graduation / post graduation in commerce stream. If you have secured 60% or more in your graduation / post graduation in other than commerce stream. If you have successfully cleared both the groups of Intermediate examination of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India. If you have successfully cleared both the groups of Intermediate examination of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. If you satisfy any of the above criteria, you can register for CA Intermediate course, complete one month course on ICITSS, and thereafter join 3 year article ship under a Practicing Chartered Accountant. On completion of 9 months of article ship, you will be eligible to appear for CA Intermediate examination. After 2.5 years of article ship, you will be eligible to appear for CA Final examination, provided by then you have cleared both the groups of CA Intermediate examination. On clearing both the groups of CA Final examination and on completion of 3 years article ship, you can apply for associate membership of ICAI. On becoming associate member of ICAI, you are a Chartered Accountant. So, you will take about 3.5 years from graduation to become a Chartered Accountant, if you clear in the first attempts, under the Direct Entry Route.
