NASTRAN is an acronym formed from NASA STRucture Analysis. NASTRAN is primarily a solver for finite element analysis. It does not have functionality that allows for graphically building a model or meshing. All input and output to the programme is in the form of text files. However, multiple software vendors market pre- and post-processors designed to simplify building a finite element model and analysing the results.
MSC Nastran is the original commercial Nastran product and most popular software in the field. MSC Nastran is commonly utilized for performing structural analysis. Although utilized in every industry, it maintains a strong following in aerospace and automotive industries for performing computational stress and strain analysis of component and system level models of structures.
Patran is also used for pre/post-processing software for Finite Element Analysis (FEA), providing solid modeling, meshing, analysis setup and post-processing for multiple solvers including MSC Nastran, Marc, Abaqus, LS-DYNA, ANSYS, and Pam-Crash.

You are advised to appear for JEE Advanced for doing B.Tech aerospace engineering. All expenses for doing B.Tech aerospace engineering at IIST is paid by the government of India with a job at ISRO subject to availability of vacancies.
Candidates wishing to join the graduation degree programmes at IIST must appear for JEE (Advanced) conducted by IITs (visit http://www.jeeadv.ac.in/ for more details). IIST admission rank list is generated only for those candidates who register online for admission to IIST and satisfy all the eligibility criteria. IIST admission rank list is repaired based on their JEE. The IIST web portal for online registration will be open from 22nd May, up to 12th June 2017.
