Aircraft Maintenance Engineering

Upon completion of 4 years' degree course, you are trained and qualified to design and test aircraft, engines and related equipment. After graduation, you may continue further studies, and do MS/M.Tech Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineer, and thereafter you can do Ph.D. and Post-Doctoral programme.
On the other hand, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is a 3 year's optional vocational training course approved by DGCA Director General of Civil Aviation. The training course allows you to apply for the BAMEL Basic Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License, after completion of the Training programme. It is also possible to apply for the License Exam directly to DGCA, if employed as a Mechanic/Technician with an Airline. Having aviation experience of 35 years allows you to clear the examination modules conducted by DGCA, and be eligible for the BAMEL LWTR License without Type Rating. This is not a degree programme, therefore it is not possible to study further PG, Doctoral and post Doctoral studies. It is like a vocation training, a certificate course. It is not even equivalent to a Diploma. Aircraft maintenance engineer A.M.E. is a low profile, blue collar job, compared to an aeronautical engineer.
