The selection of candidates to AKTU's BTech programme is based on their UPSEE ranks. The counselling process is also managed and regulated by UPSEE based on which the candidates are allotted seats. However, AKTU has reserved 20% of the total sanctioned seats for the candidates with a valid JEE Main score. JEE Main-qualified candidates are exempted from UPSEE and need to register directly for the counselling process. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) is a state-level, public collegiate university that was established in 2000. In addition to this, UPTU is a University of National Importance, specially for the UG and PG courses offered in the field of Engineering and Science.

AKTU offers scholarship assistance to students belonging to the SC/ ST/ OBC category under the regulations of the UP State Scholarship scheme. Every year, UP State releases a notification for fee reimbursement for the students of AKTU and its affiliated colleges. Students studying in AKTU can register themselves for fee-waiver scholarship schemes through the Scholarship & Fee Reimbursement Online System of UP State.
