Hi Divya,
Civil@HBTI and B.Arch@IITR both are a good choice. You cant just put one over another in any aspect. Both are related nearly to same field but the only diff. between them is that Civil being a core branch opens more doors for you after your graduation. It leaves you with more no. of choices as compared to B.Arch . Generally the aspirants are lured to take B.Arch@IITR just because of the IIT tag and end up in a dilemma by the end of their second year.
Although there is no doubt that IITR is far better than HBTI. After all it is an IIT, but that should not affect the branch of your choice. I am not denying that B.Arch is bad but it is good only when you are more interested in drawing and modelling job. Both are good.
I would advice that you must do a bit of research over internet about what B.Arch is all about, what are it's prerequisites and what all options it leaves you with after for years. Then if you feel comfortable then go with B.Arch@IITR. Otherwise Civil at HBTI is also a very good choice.

The minimum qualification that one requires to join the graduate level course is a pass in class 12 ( or equivalent exam) and a min 55% in mathematics with a background in the science/ commerce discipline. Since you have a degree in Civil Engineering, I guess you're covered there. :)
You will be required to appear for entrance exams, just like you did for Engineering. These exams test your aptitude and drawing skills
There are a lot of exams that are conducted in India For entrance in architecture but i think these are the most important:
All India Architecture Entrance Examination (happens along with AIEEE): Most colleges like NITs(duh!) and SPA accept admission through this Exam.
NATA (National Aptitude Test In Architecture): Some colleges like CEPT accept admissions through this.
(colleges that take admissions through NATA usually have a some % of weight-age for 12th std. mks.)
(I'm not sure if you're eligible for IIT Roorkee/Kharagpur Since you need to clear JEE mains to appear for their JEE advanced for B.Arch entrance and you have only 3 attempts to do so.)
Apart from these, i suggest you give your State Entrance Exams for Architecture.

Yes, NATA is important for architecture because NATA is conducted by the Council of Architecture and most of the institutes /colleges accept only NATA scores.
NATA is an entrance exam for admissions to 5 year B.Arch. degree course offered by all institutes / schools / colleges of Architecture in India (including Govt., Govt-aided, Private Unaided, University Depts., Deemed Universities, etc.).
NATA is a test which only tests drawing and 3D interpretation skills and even students from humanities or commerce background can answer the exam.The exam does not test mathematics or science knowledge.

Hi Mudit, As far as I know, to get admission in B. Arch in IIT - Kharagpur you have to clear JEE advanced first and then clear the B. Arch paper conducted after the results are out and not through NATA. IIT Roorkee offers admission on the basis of Architecture Aptitude Test which was conducted on June 21, 2015.
Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) 2015 is an architecture entrance exam for admission into IITs into the 5 years undergraduate B.Arch Course. Eligibility for Architecture Aptitude Test: Only those candidates who would have given B. Arch program (available at IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee) as one of their choices while filling their choices online will be eligible to write AAT. Moreover you have to clear JEE Advanced also. To Appear in JEE Advanced you should have cleared JEE Main paper 1.

- Career in fine arts like photography, acting, writing etc.,
- Any offbeat career like DJ, event management, ethical hacking, adventure tourism, choreography, pet grooming, developing apps etc.,
- Doing nothing, if you are rich:)
Please understand that in India (I presume you are from India!) its difficult to make a decent living in the field of your passion. So please try to get a job first and then you can indulge in your passion in your spare time and on holidays by joining various associations/NGOs in your area dealing with animals. Or you can also start an association/NGO yourself. But first you need to make a living before pursuing your passion. Hence seriously think of some career in a field of interest other than animals to start with.
To become a zoo keeper usually needs an associate's degree in animal training management; bachelor's degree in biology or zoology. They often study biology, animal science, or some other science.
Consider all the above and take a call.

So far as I know, the scenario of architecture engineering (scope wise) is not much better in India now a days.Even if u chose B. Arch in Jadavpur, u may be placed in an IT firm if your non-tech part will be good. BUT will u be satisfied after doing 4 years of B. Arch nd then joining an IT Firm.
In my view it will b better to opt for CSE in UIT, burdwan.because you'll be in college for 4 years only but you have to carry your branch till the last breath.
As you are interested in CSE and UIT burdwan is also a good college (no doubt, jadavpur university is superb), go for it.
Also try for IEM.

Hi Parv,
Architecture is Engineering! In fact it is one of the core engineering streams.
Explain this to your parents. A lot of things interest us. But, more than interest you should find out whether you are good at it. If you are good at it then go ahead and explain to your parents. Or tell them to at least let you give the entrance exam. Score high in it. Then it'll be easier to make them understand. Crack JEE and take up B. Arch. at an IIT - which I guess your parents treat synonymous with "engineering".
It entirely depends on how well you understand and handle the stream and increase your scope of growth. To decide on the course, you should analyse your strengths, career goals, interests, personality, aptitude and ability. If you decide based on these parameters you will put in your best effort and will be successful in your chosen field.
Before you decide what to do, it is important that you become aware of a critical factor for success in your chosen profession. Your exam scores are one part of it considering how competitive it is out there. Lack of strong understanding of the basics will hinder your ability to grasp the advanced topics.
Depending on your interest you could opt for a course. To pursue the right course you need to evaluate this in light of your own future career aspirations. Once you have clarity in terms of the sort of job you would enjoy, you need to analyze for yourself whether you have the qualifications /skills / practical training necessary to be able to get this. If not, then you may want to look at a course that would help you to work towards your objective.
