Just do not worry. I can understand your angst and the anxiety. Frankly speaking if you want to become a scientist then there is no need to do engineering. You should go for BCA MCA and then Ph.D. You will then be able to become scientist. Best wishes to you.

There is no value of B.Sc. Hons CS eventually you will have to do M.Sc. Or MCA. Companies prefer B.Tech students over B.Sc/BCA/MCA/M.Sc students. Even if you get a job, the package will be low. After B.Sc. You will not be eligible for GATE. Now, if you are from a commerce background then do BCA instead of B.Sc. CS as it will give you more practical knowledge!
All the best!

IITs. NITs. BITS Pilani
BIT Mesra
IIIT ( Indian institute ) avoid new IIITs
IIIT ( International institute) Hyderabad, Bangalore (Dual Degree ) are the best. These list are the best. No other colleges can beat these colleges as they are the brand names. Always aim for the central funded government colleges like the ones mentioned above. Though I have listed some private colleges but they are the best one can say.
Good luck.
