Biotechnology is a highly research oriented field, specifically if you are going the B.Sc/M.Sc route. If you are planning to do your B.Sc in Biotechnology, then an M.Sc is imperative for this field.
You can do your M.Sc in a specialized field of biotechnology such as plant biotech, bioinformatics, genetics, molecular biology etc. The reputation of your university plays a large role during your placement sessions. Since biotech field does not have many job vacancies, students from reputed institutions will be preferred over students who are from not so reputed colleges. So, make sure you are doing your B.Sc or M.Sc in a reputed university.
Upon completion of your M.Sc, most students find jobs in research labs of universities and other research institutions. The salary is less when compared with software and IT.
