Yes, there is a September intake at the University of British Columbia in Canada. This is popularly known as the Fall intake and it is the major intake when many of the UBC courses are offered.

There are two more intakes offered to international students, which are in January and a Summer one as well. however the course selection can be quite limited here.

UBC has been home to a number of nobel prize winners, with a majority of the individuals known for their ground-breaking research work in their respective areas of studies.

Given below are some popular winners of the Nobel Prize at UBC:

  • Hans G Dehmelt: Nobel Prize in Physics (1989), worked as a researcher at the UBC Physics & Astronomy labs before shifting base to the University of Washington
  • Micheal Smith:  Nobel Prize in Chemistry (1993), for reprogramming DNA segments

Justin Trudeau, pursued an degree in Education from UBC, having previously pursued a UG degree in English Literature from McGill.

Trudeau led the Liberal Party between 2013 & 2025, while also being a member of Parliament for Papineau from 2008 to 2025.

He was recently succeeded by Mark Carney

No, UBC, is not an Ivy League institute, as it is based in Canada. The Ivy League only comprises of colleges & universities from the United States, & as a result UBC is not eligible to be considered in that group.

However, it still maintains a great academic environment, & many prominent publications, consider it a part of the "Canadian Ivys", an unofficial name given to some of the best institutions in Canada.

UFV International British Columbia High School Entrance Scholarships are offered to those students who are international high school student. They must have either attended a secondary school in B.C. or an offshore high school that has been inspected and certified by the B.C. government. The amount for this scholarship is CAD 5,000 (Around INR 3 lakh).
