Yes, you can join Amrita school of Engineering, coimbatore without JEE. You have to appear for AEEE. AEEE is conducted twice a year to get admission in Amrita school of Engineering.

If students have a good rank in JEE MAIN they can get a direct admission in Amrita school of Engineering.

Direct admission for GATE qualified students is also available, but no interview is required.

For Engineering / Technology courses, the candidate shall have scored not less than 45% of marks in aggregate in PUC with Physics, Mathematics and any one of the subjects of Chemistry / Biology / Computer Science / Electronics / Bio-Technology or Diploma (10 + 3) in appropriate branch.

The *Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe & Other Backward Classes candidate shall have scored not less than 40% of marks in aggregate in Physics, Mathematics and any one of the subjects of Chemistry / Biology / Bio-Technology/ Electronics / Computer Science.

No, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore is not a government institute. It is India's the largest private institute. Its main Coimbatore campus sprawls over 400 acres.
It was the first center for higher learning under the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham group.  
The university has six campuses in four south Indian states - Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. ASE, Coimbatore was the first campus to be established in 1994, and it offers graduate and postgraduate courses in engineering.
