No, admission to NIT Calicut BTech course is entirely based on merit obtained in JEE Main entrance exam. Candidates can take the test by registering online on the NTA website (nta.ac.in). The students who secure a score greater than or equal to the cutoff marks become eligible for participation in the JoSAA counselling, which is conducted for the final seat allotment. Futher, vacant seats are filled with CSAB Counselling process.

Candidates seeking admission to a BTech course at NIT Calicut must have passed Class 12 in the Science stream with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Also, they must attain minimum of 75% aggregtae in their final exam of Class 12. The students whose results are pending can also apply for the course provisionally. Moreover, candidates must have academic certificates for verification purposes.

NIT Calicut has 13 hostels on the campus, out of which 10 are for boys and 3 for girls. These include two mega hostels for boys and a 500-seat mega hostel for ladies. Messes operated by outsourcing are available in all hostels. Hostel administration is through the Chief Warden and the Council of Wardens, appointed by the Director.
