Yes, a PGDM is considered to be equal to an MBA in India. There are various elite B-schools such as SP Jain, MDI, XLRI, etc. which do not give an MBA degree but are quite renowned for their excellent placements.

All NITS and IITs are the institutes of national importance. The functioning of NITK is governed by the NIT Act, 2007 and by the rules laid down by the Government of India from time to time. NITK is governed by the Board of Governors which consists of representatives of the Government of India, Government of Karnataka, Alumni, Industry and other bodies.
