AIT has a structured intake of 480 seats, spread across the five branches of engineering that the college specialises in. The limited intake ensures that the student-to-faculty ratio is well managed, allowing students the best of individual attention and laboratory facilities.

There are no traditional caste-based or socio-economic reservations for these courses. Since the institute is exclusively for the wards of Army, Navy, and Air Force personnel, no other reservation is entertained. This ensures that kids of armed forces uniformed personnel have a dedicated space to pursue high-quality engineering education.

AIT is different from other private universities in the sense that the campus is highly disciplined and only for the children of serving or retired Army personnel. The campus is run by the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) and provides a very unique culture of integrity and discipline. While private colleges serve a wide range of students, the campus at AIT offers a highly peer-influenced environment from a distinguished background.
