-Candidate have passed B.Sc. with Physics and Mathematics, the third subject may be any other, Chemistry/ Computer Science/ Electronics/ Computer Maintenance etc. or done B.Sc. (physics hons.)

But it is understood that it varied between 14K to 32K for general & reserved categories respectively in the first round. Yes the selection will based on the merit list of the entrance exam and also on the availability of seats which is 120.Reservations will be granted as per the norms of university and government.

New IIITS are not better than Thapar University, as Thapar University's placement is very good and many good companies come for placement, also it is older than new IIITS. It has it's own campus as most of new IIITS don't have it's own campus.
