 NIT Sikkim application process varies from course to course. The application process of BTech, MTech, and MSc is done via the official website of their respective entrance exams JEE Main, GATE, and Jam, followed by applying for the counselling bodies of JoSAA (BTech), CCMT (MTech), and CCMN (MSc). As for the PhD programme, candidates must apply via the NIT Sikkim official website by filling the online appplication form available online. Additionally, the institution conducts IAT (Institute Admission Test) for admission to the MTech/MSc vacant seats after the completion of the course-wise counseling process.

To get admission at NIT Sikkim, candidates muat have certain percnetile in the course they want to apply. Candidate are eligible for further entrance exams and counselling process, once they qualify the eligibility criteria of NIT Sikkim, which are as follows:

The total fee for the BTech programme at NIT Sikkim is INR 49,500. Total fee is calculated based on annual/ semester fee available for the academic year, hence is indicative. ST/SC & PH students are fully exempted from paying tuition fees, while the most economically backward students (whose family income is less than INR 1 Lacs per annum) are granted full remission of the tuition fee. Other economically backward students, whose family income falls between INR 1 Lacs to 5 Lacs per annum, are granted a remission of 2/3rd of the tuition fee. 

The comparison between the costs of studying at IUST and NIT Srinagar is not straightforward, as the fees for both institutions are not the same. The fees for NIT Srinagar for B.Tech in Civil Engineering are INR 5.00 Lacs for a 4-year course.While there is no direct comparison of fees, it does indicate that the student experience and satisfaction may differ between the two institutions.NIT Srinagar has a rating of 3.8 out of 5 for its B.Tech in Civil Engineering course, based on 49 genuine verified student reviews.In comparison, IUST has a rating of 3.2 out of 5 for the same course, based on 14 student reviews

As per the NIRF report 2024, a total of 31 MTech students graduated in 2023. Out of these, 20 were placed during 2023 placements. This makes the placement rate almost 65%. Earlier, out of 34 MTech graduates 12 were placed during 2022 placements. This makes the placement rate 35%. From 2021 to 2023, a fluctuating trend was recorded in the MTech placement rate.
