Thus, apart from academic qualifications, it also considers whether an applicant is suitably motivated to complete their chosen programme of study. While assessing applications, the admissions committee takes into account the information provided in the personal statement and reference letters. It also considers the academic ability, motivation and experience of the applicant. Even though all courses will clearly state their entry criteria, yet sometimes the university offers admission to students below the normal points range in exceptional circumstances. Such cases either have evidence that the applicant’s grades may have been affected by individual circumstances or in relation to performance at an interview and/or extension. On the other hand, where courses require interviews, portfolio submission or auditions as part of their selection criteria, the admissions committee will make this explicit to applicants. The university's standard minimum eligibility requirements for admission to undergraduate courses are Level 3 qualifications from degree-awarding bodies in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Individual course requirements may be higher with minimum scores requirements in particular subject areas. The eligibility requirements for Indian students are as follows:

• UG admissions: Grade 12 passing certificate is required to get admission to an undergraduate programme. The certificate must be awarded by CBSE, CISCE, or metro state boards. If not, students are required to complete a foundation programme.
• PG admissions: Students are required to have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2.1 or 2.2, depending on the course.
• Research: Submit a formal application by completing the online research degree application form along with a research proposal.

To get the merit-based scholarships at the University of Huddersrfield, international students are required to meet certain eligibility. These merit-based scholarships award up to GBP 4,000 to international for a range of undergraduate and postgradaute courses. The minimum eligiblity for these scholarships are as follows:
