Massachusetts Institute of Technology accepts several English proficiency exams for international students whose first language is not English and who have not received a language waiver.

The primary exams accepted are the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

For the TOEFL, MIT typically expects a minimum score of 100 on the internet-based test (iBT), though higher scores are often seen among successful applicants.

For the IELTS, a minimum band score of 7.5 is generally required.
