Harvard admissions are really very competitive (only ), and it is very hard to get into this university. The students not only have to be outstanding academically but also have a memorable and holistic profile.
Indian applicants are expected to have built a 'spike' (deep specialisation) over the years, have unique personal narratives, and a huge impact.
For example, 98% in Chemistry is great but a published research in a local newspaper is what Harvard sees in an application.

- Lack of programme fit
- Generic or weak SOP
- Crowded courses (high competitiveness)
- Failure to prove genuine student intent
