During admission, IIT Kanpur BTech students need to pay a one-time refundable amount of INR 31,200. This includes admission fee and a refundable security deposit. These charges are paid only once during the entire programme.

IIT Kanpur BTech programme first year fee is INR 56,160 for GEN/OBC/EWS, SC/ST/PwD, and MEB categories. For OEB category students, first-year fee is higher at INR 89,493 due to the tuition fee component. This amount includes one-time charges, semester fees, and annual fees.

IIT Kanpur BTech seat matrix is divided by branch (such as Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, etc.) and by category-wise reservation, with gender-neutral and female-only seats for each programme, as reflected in recent JoSAA data.

The JoSAA seat matrix for IIT Kanpur will be officially released on the JoSAA website prior to counselling, showing the exact number of seats for each BTech discipline. In previous years, the total combined intake for BTech (across branches) has been around what was seen in IIT Kanpur's earlier matrix, giving an indication of similar scale this year.

Following JEE Advanced results, the JoSAA 2026 counselling process for seat allocation — which determines admission into the BTech programme at IIT Kanpur is expected to begin on June 2 with detailed schedule and rounds announced soon on the JoSAA portal.

JEE (Advanced) exam is the qualifying test for admission to IIT Kanpur BTech. This will be held on Sunday, May 17, and only candidates who clear this exam are eligible for the JoSAA counselling process.

IIT Kanpur BTech students had record placements, with overall average packages around INR 26 LPA and the highest domestic/international offers was around INR 1.9 crore. This shows highly competitive compensation packages from top recruiters across industries.

During Phase-I of this placement session, IIT Kanpur received 1,202 offers from a wide range of recruiters. Students accepted 1,079 offers, including pre-placement offers (PPOs). This shows a very strong placement record this year.

In this year placement drive, IIT Kanpur had a historic placement performance with record 672 job offers on first day. This shows strong industry demand for its BTech graduates and continued participation from over 250 companies.
