If he is really interested in that course, then he can go for B.Com and apply for banking exams available on NET. With every exam he cracks, he gets a better position.

The scores of the HSC and SSC are considered for IIM-Bangalore and few others. But IIM-Ahmedabad, Calcutta, etc., give the admission on the basis of the CAT score. It's all depends upon where your interest lies within. After Commerce (+Maths) you will have the wide range of options available like, Finance or Economics Hons etc. CA CS CFA etc. So choose the best fit for you. Hope this helps.
