For getting better and attractive jobs, you need to be more focused on skills and practical knowledge. You need to learn programming languages like c, c+, Java, PHP, etc. which will help you in getting good jobs.

C for sure, irrespective of the department and university. You may want to learn Python for your projects. Learning MATLAB scripts will also be helpful. Check your university syllabus to know more.

Learning C will definitely help, although it's not a requirement. They basically share almost the same syntax.
