Fashion designing is the art of designing clothing, fashion, accessories, etc. They design garments which are functional as well as attractive and in keeping with trends, market predictions and the climate. They have knowledge about fabric, weave, draping qualities, material, color and design and the changing trends.
On the other hand, the apparel designing is a more technical term pertaining to the specific act of creating clothing from nuts to bolts.They are trained in fabric printing, dyeing, embroidery and design development. They work as design developers, color specialists, hand painters and printing supervisors.

To start a career as a fashion designer, two types of qualifications are required:
1. Natural: this skill set would comprise of a decent aesthetic sense, colour expertise, good taste and sense of trends and fashion. An eye for detail and knowledge of fabrics is also important.
2. Acquired skills would be a qualification from a decent, recognized fashion Institute. You can enroll for either a full-time course or a part-time certificate course. Students usually take these up after their 10+2 level. While the academic requirements are not very high, you need considerable aptitude and talent to be labeled designer material. You must be highly creative to combine colours, shades and textures and express your ideas through sketches.
Your race for admission into a reputed fashion school will begin straight after school. Subjects like drawing, painting, home science and computer graphics will develop your creativity.
By the time you finish the course you will have mastered the step-by-step making of a garment: from designing to pattern making, production and even marketing. The career in fashion designing starts as a trainee designer after the completion of respective courses and later enters into higher stages of the fashion industry. The basic instinct of artistic nature, creative mind with excellent talent in making sketches and a good sense of choosing colours suitable for the need, etc., are the necessary attributes for an aspiring fashion designer.

The BCom (Travel and Tourism) is offered by Christ University, Bangalore and BTS is offered by IGNOU (www.ignou.ac.in). One can also do a 6 months - 1 year training of International Tourist Guide offered by Thomas Cook or Kuoni Academy and become a well paid tour manager, tour planner, guide as well as set up a travel agency.

(3) BCom + Company Secretaryship
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India offers the Foundation Course (8 months) for those who have passed 10+2. If a student has enrolled for BCom and has the aim to become a Company Secretary then, she can simultaneously enroll for the 8-month foundation course from ICSI and later after completion of B.Com take up the intermediate course and complete the complete course to become a Company Secretary.
(4) BCom + Chartered Accountancy
Becoming a Chartered Accountant takes a minimum 3-4 years.
