Just to clarify, no book or teacher can make you a director. See, a film director makes films and films are a medium for story telling. So, you need to have a story, you need to find your own voice and this, fortunately, or unfortunately, will be your never-ending-personal-struggle. But you can learn the technical aspects of film-making and that's where books and teachers come into the picture. Now, since we're over with the rough part, I can suggest a few books now. These mediums, books, tutorials and websites, have taught me everything I know about film-making and I'm still learning. Note - To direct a film crew and cast, you will have to study all aspects of film-making, at-least the basics and COMMUNICATION with your cast and crew will be the most important factor. Screenplay - Syd Field's Screenplay books or Robert McKee's books. I personally love Syd Field. Editing - You can download a lot of tutorials online but the basic approach to editing or it's philosophical reason can be best found in, In the blink of an eye by Walter Much. Cinematography & Production Designing - The Five CS of Cinematography by Joseph V. Mascelli and Film Directing Shot by Shot by Steven D. Katz. Sound - Audio-Vision: Sound on Screen - Michel Chion

Videography is meant to be something with the camera and is not advised to be done through distance mode. The above things cannot be imparted through distance mode and that's is why it is not advised to have a course in acting or even anchoring through distance mode. These areas of expertise are not theory-based subjects and can never be made a theory based alone. The students need exposure and real-time experience.
