Well, it would depend on the institute, as different institutes have different criteria.
As you have already done a diploma, you are eligible for seeking lateral entry in B.Tech. One requires to qualify LEET as conducted by the technical education board of the state. Lateral Entry Entrance Tests are conducted on state level. But some colleges and Univerities too conduct Lateral Entry Tests. You will get direct admission to 2nd year of B.Tech if you clear the exam.

Electrical and Electronics engineering -
Electrical and electronics engineers are involved in a wide variety of technology ranging from huge global positioning systems which can pinpoint the location of a moving vehicle to gigantic electrical power generators. These engineers are responsible for designing, developing, testing as well supervising the production of electrical and electronic equipment and machinery. Broadcast and telecommunication systems, electric motors, controls of machinery, lights and wiring in building complexes, vehicles, aircraft, radar and navigation systems, power generation, control and transmission devices which are used by electric utilities are all examples of equipment built by these engineers. They may also work in fields which relate to computers and IT. However, those engineers who deal exclusively with computer hardware are called computer hardware engineers- an engineering specialty with is discussed separately in the Handbook.
Electrical -
There are equally good opportunities for jobs in electrical engineering industry and higher education. There is lot of multidisciplinary research for developing electric vehicles with great funding and scope all over there world. On the same time good opportunities back home in industry.A possible course of action for some graduates is to pursue further study in a specialist field or in research. Electronics and Communication -
Electronics and communication engineering course give enormous job opportunities in electronics and software companies.It also gives great opportunities for research and development, as everyday consumer need new devices to support them in daily life.Today, technology is growing at a rapid pace. In the coming future there is bound to be huge demand for competent engineers in electronic industry to cope this demand in technology. These engineers would be involved in creating and sustaining cutting edge technology to stay ahead in competition.

Electronic engineering, is an engineering discipline where non-linear and active electrical components such as electron tubes, and semiconductor devices, especially transistors, diodes and integrated circuits, are utilized to design electronic circuits, devices and systems, typically also including passive electrical components and based on printed circuit boards.A telecommunication engineer is responsible for designing and overseeing the installation of telecommunications equipment and facilities, such as complex electronic switching systems, copper telephone facilities, and fiber optics. Telecom engineering also overlaps heavily with broadcast engineering.
Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering would be better option.

Digital electronics is a specialised field and very few institutes will be offering a Bachelors in it. However, what I can suggest is that you do your BE. B.Tech in Electronics and Communication as digital electronics is also a part of it.

Generally, candidates join lateral B.Tech course after completing diploma in any engineering field to get direct entry into the second year. Degree course will open more opportunities for you.
Eligibility Criteria :
You need to score minimum aggregate of 60% marks in the diploma course. You need to sit for Lateral Entry Entrance Test or LEET which is conducted at state level. Some colleges and Universities too conduct their own lateral entry tests.
