The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2017 is responsible for counseling and seat allocation of candidates who will clear JEE Mains 2017 and JEE Advanced 2017. JoSAA 2017 will conduct counseling for JEE Mains 2017 qualifying candidates and will allot seats for admissions to the participating institutes, which consist of NITs, IIITs and other-GFTIs. Similarly, admissions to qualifying candidates of JEE Advanced 2017 will be offered in IITs and ISM, Dhanbad through JoSAA 2017 counseling and seat allotment. There are as many as 92 participating institutes of JoSAA 2017. It is expected that JoSAA 2017 counseling and seat allotment will be conducted in six rounds.
JOSAA 2017 registration process includes the following steps:
1. Filling-in of choices
Candidates need to fill their choices of institutes and branches in decreasing order of their preference
2. Locking of choices
Candidates need to lock their choices , if a candidate don't lock any choices , his last saved choices will be locked automatically once the time window closes
3. Number of rounds of seat allocation
JOSAA conducts four rounds for seat allocation
4. Seat acceptance
Candidates once allotted a seat must pay seat allotment fee and get the documents verified at any reporting centre for provisional seat acceptance
5. Participation in subsequent rounds
Candidate has to choose the options of freeze, slide or float for the academic programs
6. Dual Reporting
If a candidates allotment for NIT system changes to an IIT/ ISM, the candidate must report once again at an IIT reporting centre, similarly if a candidates allotment from IIT/ISM changes to an NIT system, the candidate must report at any NIT reporting center, failure to do so will result in forfeiture of seats allocated in both NIT and the IIT/ISM.
7. Withdraw Option
Candidate, who has already accepted a seat, can withdraw the seat by reporting at a center before the next round of seat allocation
