The PhD Program is offered for both Full time as well as in working professional mode in (Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) & Information Technology (IT), and Allied Subjects – English covering following Major areas of Research.

• For Computer Science & Engineering and Information Technology, applicants should possess a Master's degree such as M.Tech, M.E, or MCA+M.Tech in relevant disciplines, with a First Class or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST/PwD) or a CPI/CGPA greater than 6.75 (6 for SC/ST/PwD) on a 10-point scale. Additionally, a minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience is required.

• Desirable qualifications include a valid GATE Score or an equivalent exam.

The admission of a candidate to the PhD programme of IIT Kharagpur is conducted by the Departmental Academic Committee (Post-Graduate and Research), abbreviated as DAC (PG&R), of the Department/Centre concerned, on the basis of

• Overall Academic Performance
• Written Test (Through offline mode)
• Personal Interview (PI) (Through offline mode)

The academic units shortlist the students for final interview based only on the overall academic performance or based on both overall academic performance and written test/ PI. However, final selection will be based on overall academic performance and performance in written test and final interview only.
