In my opinion, seriously there is no way to learn English language, as English is very imperfect language. The only way is to read novels, newspaper and use English language as your day to day communication. And, if you are really bad in English that doesn't matter, when you read novel, you become used to. As the reading habit develop, go side by side for writing also. So, it takes time, but there is no correct date or duration for learning English. It develops little by little. So, take first baby steps, then develop your habit.

There are many book as in MA English entrance exam. But, you have to be knowledgeable in history of English literature. The critical analysis. The postmodern theories. More over, the Shakespeare plays also plays a vital role in that kind of exams. For history of English literature, you can go for "Routledge history of English literature ". It is the best book for NET exam also. Best of luck.

The only way to improve your English is to read and write. Enhance your listening skill by watching Hollywood movies, so you became used to their accent. And for speaking skill, the only way is to be confident. If you have knowledge of English language, but you can't express it through your words that's all in vain. So, communication is really crucial in speaking English.
